A fun Q/A session

No fluff, no BS. Just you and me, eye to eye — real questions, real answers.

I had this incredibly vivid dream two years ago. I actually woke up in tears, thinking “Wow, that would make for such an amazing story!”
But of course, a single scene—no matter how powerful or original—doesn’t make a full story (unless we’re talking about a super short film).
That’s when the “fun” began. <sarcastic mode>
For about a year, I made slow progress, hitting one roadblock after another. Eventually, I gave up and let it rest. A year later, I came back to it with fresh eyes… and had a total Eureka moment.
I realized I had overcomplicated everything—side plots, extra characters, unnecessary quests. I cut all that out, simplified it, and suddenly everything clicked. I think I finished the whole thing within a week after that.

I would love to say “both!”
My original goal with DreamGirl was to turn it into a movie. It just felt obvious to me (especially as a creator) that it would make for an awesome film.
But then the reality hit: how do you even start something like that? I’m a bit naive and candid, but even I knew that just having a script wasn’t enough—it would probably get lost in the void.

I felt like I needed to rocket boost the whole thing. At first, I thought about making a video trailer… but that turned out to be way more complicated (and expensive) than I had imagined. So I shifted to the idea of a graphic novel.

I’ve read comic books for decades, and the format just sung to me. Still—not cheap, not easy. So I settled for a compromise: getting a few pages drawn by a really talented up-and-coming artist. But as soon as I saw the result, I thought: “It’s such a shame to stop there… this would make a fantastic full graphic novel!”

And that’s when it hit me: crowdfunding. Not only could it help bring the story to life, but it would also be a way to publicly say: “This is my story. I’m the daddy here! You can’t copy that story!” Hopefully, it’ll also generate some buzz and find its audience.

So… Kickstarter, here we come!

Well, let’s make the graphic novel first, and who knows what could happen.

I was a rabid comic book reader through the 80s and 90s (less so in the 2000s — something felt off). When I imagined DreamGirl, I couldn’t shake the influence of Terry Moore’s covers (Strangers in Paradise), the bold, cinematic paneling of The Losers, and the soft, flat, almost minimalistic color palettes that remind me of early GTA artwork. I mashed those together with a sprinkle of expressive faces — because emotion is key to a fun story.

To keep costs low and avoid the logistical nightmare of printing and shipping physical books, I decided early on to go fully digital. Back in the 90s, that would’ve felt unthinkable — a comic without paper? Madness! But times have changed, and digital is now a viable, even exciting, option. That said… if the campaign takes off, I’d absolutely love to release a physical edition. So, who knows? It’s really up to you — support us, share the word, and let’s make it happen together.

First of all — failure? Not in my vocabulary. Like Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith (at least in my dreams), I love it when a plan comes together. So I planned this mission with military precision: the initial goal only covers Act 1 and part of Act 2. That way, if needed, we can launch a second campaign to finish the graphic novel.

Even in a worst-case scenario, Act 1 gets made. And honestly? I believe in this project. The story works, the art works, the site’s fun — and yes, the jokes are stupid. My relatives warned me: “Are you sure about the humor?” Damn right I am. That Jack Black vibe is in my DNA. I’d rather people love or hate it than get a polite shrug. So yeah — we’re going all in. Or not at all.

So you’re one of those ‘sounds great, maybe later’ folks?

Absolutely! Even a buck makes a difference. I know it sounds cliché, but truly, I’d be incredibly grateful for any support. And hey, you don’t even need to contribute money — just sharing the word and sending some good vibes works wonders too. I’ll be happy either way!

Wow, that’s amazing! We could definitely use some help to take this project to the next level.

If you’re interested, here’s where you can pitch in:
– Help improve the site or work on the Kickstarter page
– Get creative with the Kickstarter video trailer (I’m imagining something crazy, like a Borderlands-style vibe). I’d love to have some motion design, animation, VFX, sound FX, and all that good stuff.
– Spread the word on social media (I’ll admit, I’m not the most social person, so your help would be huge!)

Honestly, you could be part of the team if you’d like. Just send me an email at contact@dreamgirlthemovie.com or use the contact form in the contact page.

Oh, and if your dad happens to be a movie exec… don’t hesitate, reach out ASAP!

I’d say PG-13. It’s got some emotional depth and mature-ish themes, but nothing too heavy. Teens and up should be right at home. My inspiration was Back to the Future.

Like how?
